What to do after a cyber attack.

Cybercrime in all its many forms (e.g., online identity theft, financial fraud, stalking, bullying, hacking, e-mail spoofing, information piracy and forgery, intellectual property crime, and more) can, at best, wreak havoc in victims’ lives through major inconvenience and annoyance. At worst, cybercrime can lead to financial ruin and potentially threaten a victim’s reputation and personal safety.

  • Once stored in your password manager, Be sure to follow the password manager instructions to turn off other in app or in browser password storage. This will avoid having passwords in different locations.   For example Chrome and Firefox browsers offer to save passwords.  This is not to downplay these browsers, both have there pro's and con's.  Rely only on one dedicated password manager where that is their only business.
  • Passwords ideally should be changed from a device that has not been affected.
  • Increase your cyber Awareness. Numerous techniques can be in place to protect you, but all of it can be tossed on end, by your device and online practices, and your awareness or lack thereof.  So take steps to protect yourself as best as you can.
